Coming by car
Coming to Gastein by car
You will be able to drive via motorways and major highways all the way to Dorfgastein and the Hotel Römerhof. Please make sure you purchase the required toll stickers and come equipped with tires appropriate to winter driving conditions.
From the north via Munich (ca. 2 hours) and Salzburg (ca. 1 hour):
In Salzburg you will take the Tauern Autobahn A10 in the direction of Villach. Leave the autobahn in Bischofshofen (Exit 47) following signs for Gasteinertal. Keep on highway 311 in the direction of the Gasteinertal. In Lend, turn onto highway 167 and continue to Dorfgastein.
From the west via Innsbruck (ca. 2 hours):
Coming from Innsbruck, you will take the A12 autobahn to Wörgl. There you will take highway 178 in the direction of St. Johann/Tirol and continue as far as Lofer. Here you will turn onto highway 311 and continue via Saalfelden and Zell am See to Lend. Follow signs to the Gasteinertal as far as Dorfgastein. If you wish, you can stay on the autobahn via Innsbruck and Kufstein and Salzburg, then continue as described above.
From the south via Villach (ca. 1 hour):
Take the A10 autobahn from Villach in the direction of Salzburg. Follow signs at the Knoten Spittal – Millstätter See interchange for Lienz and Lendorf. Drive in the direction of Obervellach and continue on to Mallnitz. Awaiting you here will be the motorail service to the Gastein Valley. In Böckstein, you will simply take highway 167 to Dorfgastein.
Please note that toll stickers are required on Austria’s autobahns. Substantial fines are possible if you are caught without one. In winter, you should definitely equip your car with appropriate winter tires. But don’t worry: the autobahns and highways to the Gastein Valley are drivable in all seasons and always kept in top-notch condition.
